This crochet scarf is made to match the crochet hats and, like them, could be made in other yarns as long as the tension was OK. Tension is less important for the scarf than the hats.
Crochet Tassel Scarf
UK terminology given first, US terminology given in brackets
Yarn – I used King Cole Big Value Cotton Look Glitter DK, 1 100g ball is enough.
Hook – 5.00mm
Tension (gauge) – 12 stitches to 4 inches.
Foundation row
Ch 24 loosely. Using a larger hook, say 6mm, for this foundation chain only is helpful if you crochet tightly.
Row 1. Work tr (dc) into 3rd ch from hook, tr (dc) into each ch to end – 21 tr (dc)
Row 2. Ch3, 1 tr (dc) into each stitch to end – 21 tr (dc)
Row 3. Ch4, dtr (tr) into each stitch to end – 21 dtr (tr)
Row 4. As row 2.
Repeat these 3 rows 22 times more, 23 repeats in total.
Shape first end
Ch3, miss first stitch, 1tr (dc) into each stitch to end – 20sts
Repeat this row until 3 stitches remain. (reducing by 1 stitch every row)
Ch3, tr (dc) in last stitch. Fasten off.
Shape second end
Rejoin yarn to beginning.
Work 1tr (dc) into base of each foundation chain - 21 tr (dc)
Continue as for shape first end. Do not fasten off.
Edging
Work dc (sc) all around scarf. Work 2 into the end of each tr (dc) and 3 into each dtr (tr). Fasten off.
Tassels
Cut 18 x 36” lengths of yarn and divide into 2 groups of 9.
Fold one bunch of 9 in half and push the folded end through the end space of the shaped end. Pull the two ends, each of 9 strands, through the folded loop and pull up neatly, keeping the two ends the same length. Braid these 18 strands gently and tie an overhand knot near the end to stop the braid unravelling.
Complete the second end tassel in the same way.
